Persistent Rot

Persistent Rot

Description

Forgotten creatures from Ker Nethalas' alchemical labs, a Persistent Rot is a strange amalgam of mammals, fungi, and necromancy. Originally they were likely used to dispose of organic matter from the labs and provide a consistent source of necrotic aether (and excellent mushrooms). At their largest, they can be thrice the size of an adult human, and are always significantly faster. These many limbed fungal creatures run down their victims to use as a growing medium for new mycelium networks to add to their colonies. Upon catching the scent of a nutrient source they will relentlessly pursue it until captured and return it to their feeding area to eat and seed. Persistent Rots tend to vast colonies of symbiotic fungi in these rooms.

Actions

Fungal Assault

Roll: 1-2

The Persistent Rot releases clouds of spores around itself, causing various debilitating effects to all creatures in the vicinity. Targets must succeed on an Endurance check or increase their Exhaustion by D4.

Consume(Physical)

Roll: 3-5

The Persistent Rot attempts to consume its target, dealing D8 Necrotic damage. The Persistent Rot gains temporary Health equal to the damage dealt.

Fungal Infestation(Magical)

Roll: 6

The Persistent Rot telepathically commands its symbiotic fungi to infest a target's body with spores. The target must succeed on an Endurance check or become infected with fungal growths, taking D8 Necrotic damage at the start of each of their turns. They may attempt a new endurance check at the start of every round to get rid of the infestation. Additionally, the first time they are affected by these spores, the character must make an Endurance check to avoid contracting the Rot (Ker Nethalas, page 74).
